Dr. Maria E. Fernandez
Developing and Tailoring Implementation Strategies: an Implementation Mapping Approach
Biography:
Dr. Fernandez is the Lorne Bain Distinguished Professor of Public Health and Medicine, Professor of Health Promotion and Behavioral Sciences and Director of the Center for Health Promotion and Prevention Research at UTSPH. She has extensive experience in Implementation Science and Knowledge Translation with a focus on cancer and chronic disease prevention and control. She was a member of the NIH Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health Study Section, and served as faculty for the NCI-sponsored Training Institute for Dissemination and Implementation Research in Health. As the Principal Investigator on several large KT grants, funded by the NIH, CDC, and Cancer Prevention Research Institute of Texas (CPRIT), she has developed tools, implementation strategies, and measures for implementation research and practice. For example, Dr. Fernandez and her colleagues have developed and evaluated an online tool to facilitate adaptation and implementation of evidence-based cancer control programs. She is an expert on Implementation Mapping, a systematic process for planning and tailoring implementation strategies.
