Jamie Brehaut, PhD, is a cognitive psychologist with expertise in psychological theory, judgement and decision making, computer usability, and knowledge translation. He holds a Careeer Scientist award from the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-term Care, and has appointments as a Scientist in the Clinical Epidemiology Program of the Ottawa Health Research Institute, and as Associate Director for the Bell Patient Decision Support Laboratory. The primary goals of his research projects include: 1) developing new techniques for identifying problems with communication of decision support tools; 2) identifying cognitive and display factors that can affect interpretation and comprehension of decision support tools; and 3) examining how existing cognitive theoretical frameworks may be employed to understand the process of uptake and application of decision support tools. He is also leading an ongoing project to understand issues related to the health and needs of caregivers of children with disabilities.
